A free, two-day workshop will be offered at the Stonington Public Library on January 24 and 31, for those interested in exploring goals, values, and options for their future healthcare decisions, as well as learning practical information about Advance Care Planning.
The Workshop is part of Choices That Matter, a community campaign offering opportunities for individuals and families of Deer Isle, Stonington, and the Blue Hill Peninsula communities to engage in and improve decision-making for end-of-life care. Choices That Matter is coordinated by Healthy Peninsula, in collaboration with VNA Home Health Hospice, Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, Eastern Maine Health Systems, Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, the Blue Hill Public Library, and a dedicated committee of community volunteers, who have collaborated to develop a variety of conversational tools, information sources, and educational techniques to help individuals, families, healthcare providers, and communities make thoughtful and informed end-of-life decisions.
The Workshop will offer a group of ten to fifteen people a chance to explore their own goals on advance care planning by thinking, talking about, and then making a plan for what kind of care they want at end-of-life. It will be facilitated by an experienced team including Susan Ostertag, M.D. (Family Doctor & Geriatrician, retired), Nat Barrows (Editor & Publisher, Penobscot Bay Press), and Cheryl Sheasby (Owner, Home Instead Senior Homecare), and held on Wednesday, January 24, and Wednesday, January 31, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each day, at the Stonington Public Library.
There is no cost for the workshop but advance registration is required and space is limited. To register or for more information on Choices that Matter, contact info@healthypeninsula, call 374-3257, or check out our website (www.healthypeninsula.org) and Choices that Matter Facebook page.
