Early Childhood Interest Group
The Early Childhood Interest Group (ECIG), inspired by Ready by 21 programs on Deer Isle, first met in November 2012, facilitated by Healthy Peninsula Board members, to address the issues around Kindergarten readiness on the Blue Hill Peninsula and Deer Isle. The first meeting brought together sixty educators, medical and service providers, and community volunteers, the beginning of regional group to explore the challenges and resources for families, schools, and communities.
The ECIG remains active in convening monthly meetings with a wide variety of participants who work to address the challenges of educational and social-emotional outcomes for young children through outreach and evidence-based services to families. Meeting agendas include updates of local/regional education and service provider programs and community resources, discussions of topical concerns, and presentations geared toward family education and services.
The ECIG meets on the second Wednesday of each month during the school year (September through June) from 4:30–5:30 pm. We also have an email list of 100 and send out announcements about meetings, pending state EC legislation, conferences, and special events.
Everyone is welcome. For more information or to be added to our email list, contact Sandy Phoenix at sphoenix@healthypeninsula.org.
