My professional background, while inclusive of doing bookkeeping for a construction company, is in social work and rehabilitation counseling. I spent several years working in the City of Richmond, Virginia providing direct therapeutic and case management services and advocacy for adults who lived with serious mental illness, substance use and were experiencing homelessness. I was also a familiar face in the VA State Legislature, fighting for improved mental health access and services. My advocacy and support continue today.
My husband and I made a decision to bring me home in 2015 when we found out we were having baby number two as we felt it was important to focus on our own children’s nurturing and development. Having the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom is one of my most treasured. In 2017, we made the next major decision to leave my home state of Virginia and move to his hometown of Surry, Maine. Our goal is to create our own self-sustaining homestead and raise our children in a safe, welcoming and wondrous atmosphere. We believe in exploration, the importance of Nature and love spending our time either in our gardens, in the woods or on the water. We do not sit still.
I am very excited to be the Early Childhood Coordinator at Healthy Peninsula. It’s a topic that is near and dear to my heart and puts me in a place to help our area be the best it can be for our little ones.
